The Maryhill Stonehenge is a full-size, astronomically-aligned replica of the original Stonehenge in the UK. It was dedicated as a memorial to those that died in World War I.

This image was created by stacking thirty nine photographs (about 3 hours 15 minutes of shooting) shot after midnight. The centre of the circles is the North Pole Star. If you look (very, very) closely, you can even see a couple of Perseids meteors.

EXIF:
f/4.5 | 300 sec | ISO 400

Post Processing:
I shot 39 RAW images and converted them into JPG using Lightroom. Then I used a program called StarStaX (Windows users can use Startrails.exe) to stack the 39 JPG images. Finally, I opened the stacked image in Photoshop and touched it up.

I've never tried this kind of photography so maybe I'm asking a dumb question. But why did you make 39 photo's and stack them together instead of using the bulb mode for 3 hours and 15 minutes?

Because I don't want to risk burning my camera's sensor from exposing for so long. :) Plus it allows for more creative options, like having a model in the pic, etc.
